Cooking in the Apocalypse

Crock-Pots

So, you find yourself in the Apocalypse, with your 500 pounds of rice and pinto beans... and how do you plan on COOKING these? The hard way?

I have not yet tried to cook pinto beans myself yet, only read the "hard way" of soaking and cooking for like 20 freaking hours. No thanks.

Keeping with the "Two is one, one is none" philosophy, I ended up buying two of these. Why two? Well, if SHTF happens, total economic/social collapse, supply chain collapse, or China stops making stuff, I figured a crock pot is going to be a daily use and heavily used item that may be difficult to replace if the primary fails/breaks.

Thinking through scenarios where we are eating rice and beans a lot in a survival situation, I wouldn't want to go from 1-2 hours to cook our group's meals to 20 hours.
